We spent Friday night camping at Tanner Flats with the Larsen family. The kids were in heaven exploring, climbing, hiding. Brad even let them try out the hatchet to chop some wood.
We're so glad that even though the Andersons don't love to camp, they will come join us for dinner. It makes our evening that much more enjoyable!
A few "spooky" stories were told around the campfire before the Andersons headed home. And I wish that had been the end of our night, but instead it took a very serious turn when Maycee fell into the fire. Literally, in to the fire pit. We think she fell forward in her chair, but managed to spin into the fire on her back instead of her face. She also landed in the half of the fire pit that had turned into coals instead of active flames. Cammie pulled her out quickly and patted her down. We ripped off her jacket (the entire left arm was burned through and there was another hole burned through at the bottom of her back) but were surprised to see only a small burn on her elbow. They rushed her to the trailer and found her right hand had taken the brunt of the fire and was blistering pretty badly, so they rushed her down to the emergency room. They bandaged her up, but there won't be any permanent damage. We can't believe how blessed she is! Thank Heaven!
After all of that, the other kids were pretty shaken up. Zayne left with Cammie and Bryan and Maycee, but we kept Gavin. Just as I was trying to calm them all down, Gavin spotted a raccoon only a couple feet away from us! I took them all to the trailer and turned on The Lego Movie to settle everyone. It was a long night.
Saturday morning everyone had perked up, Maycee was feeling good, and we were all ready for a fresh start. The whole reason we had come up camping this weekend is because we had heard how spectacular the wild flowers are up at Albion Basin, so we took a hike up to Cecret Lake. And it really was beautiful!
Between our late night and hike, these kids all slept on the way home. It was an adventure!
